Snow League New Zealand Through My Lens: How to Photograph Halfpipe and Freeride at Cardrona
The Snow League World Challenge brought Shaun White's halfpipe league to Cardrona, New Zealand, in September 2026. I photographed it independently on a media pass. To shoot halfpipe, I think you need to get low so riders sit against the sky, use 1/1000 or faster with continuous autofocus, add exposure compensation for the snow, and learn each rider's style and trick set before they drop in.

Surfbreaker Triathlon
Practice triathlon photography at the 2024 Surfbreaker Triathlon in Mount Maunganui, shot over a Christmas break. Swim, bike and run coverage across 22 images — self-directed work to sharpen multi-discipline race shooting before taking on paid endurance events.

Coronet Peak Hill Climb
A self-directed sunset shoot with Queenstown mountain biker Jimmy Pollard, riding the Arrowtown river trails, Tobin's Track and the Crown Peak Summit Track on a Merida E-160. Unpaid practice work, and still some of my favourite sunset biking imagery to date.

Arrowtown Backyard Ultra
Event photography and video for Highland Events at the Arrowtown Backyard Ultra. Delivered two edits — a long-form event video and a social media cut — alongside a photo set, for the organiser's YouTube channel, website and social channels.

Charity Golf Tournament
I sponsored this one rather than shot it for a fee: Roost Mortgages' Arrowtown charity tournament, raising money for the Whakatipu High School Foundation and teachers struggling to find housing in Queenstown. I donated a half-day commercial package and a family shoot to the auction, and photographed the day.

Business South Tech Talk
Filming an industry breakfast in Cromwell for Business South, where tech specialists from local businesses met school representatives. Delivered two edits — a long-form event video and a social cut — for the organisation's YouTube channel, newsletter and social channels, with interviews from both sides of the room.

STERIS NZ Grand Opening
Two days in Auckland for STERIS NZ around the opening of their Hobsonville Point office: interior and staff photography, coverage of the opening itself, imagery for a press release about their donation to the Healing Garden at North Shore Hospital, and a testimonial video.

Whakatipu Legend Winter Swim
An annual open-water winter swim in Lake Whakatipu, shot from a lifeguard boat in a full wetsuit. I approached the organiser and asked to come along for free in my first months in Queenstown — a way into the local events community, and warmer in the water than out of it.
