Whakatipu Legend Winter Swim

In my first few months of moving to Queenstown, I wanted to get to know some people in the community and get involved with local events.  I had been shooting triathlons, marathons, and ocean swimming up in Auckland and I remembered there was this cool event called the Whakatipu Legend that happens every year in Lake Whakatipu, Queenstown.

I reached out to the organiser and asked if I could just come shoot for fun, and he allowed me to tag along because of all my past experience. They do a winter swim each year as well, and this one was bone chilling cold!  It was actually warmer in the water than it was outside of the water!

I had a full winter wetsuit on, jumped into the lifeguard boat…and got to taking photos.  It felt great to be right back in my element, capturing fast paced sports and I think I came out with some pretty unique content.  Enjoy!
