Mt. Ruapehu Pinnacle Ridge

This image was taken in 2019 after a short solo hike above the lifts on Whakapapa Ski Field on Mt. Ruapehu of New Zealand.  I hiked for about 30 minutes before resting just above the cloud line.  I turned around facing downhill and noticed these two skiers below me looking into the backcountry from the edge of the ski resort.  They were not there long but were deciding whether the snow was safe enough to drop in.  I had to take advantage of the light that was shining behind them as the cloud began to form, and quickly snapped a bunch of pictures, the above of which were the best.  Not long after, the clouds consumed them and they had to abandon the decision to drop in and I carried on hiking.  What seemed like a  fleeting moment led to this incredible series of snaps. I have since located the skiers in the picture and told them they have become the face of all of my marketing material because of how amazing these turned out!

Mountain Biking in Whakarewarewa Redwood Forest, Rotorua

This photo series comes from a trip to the Redwood Forest in Rotorua, New Zealand with social adventure group Got To Get Out where we biked the the forest for a whole weekend and camped in tents near the park.  These pictures are from the first morning with amateur trials bike rider Jacob Reich, from Arlington, Texas.  We passed by this small bridge and noticed the morning light shining at an angle through the forest.  Jacob loved the feel of the area, so we planned to try out several types of shots here.  In order to achieve this look, I had to hide behind some fern bushes close to the edge of the stream so Jacob could pass to my left.  The results were other-worldly and created the damp green look you see above.  It is easy to notice just how in tune Jacob is with his bike in these pictures, and that was part of my goal to capture the essence of his riding style while also showing off the beautiful nature we were lucky to ride in.

Mt. Taranaki Golden Hour Symmetry

This photo was taken on Whakapapa Ski Field during a mid season sunset in 2019.  I had my camera on a tripod and was testing framing the two mountains pictured with the sun setting between them.  As I adjusted the zoom ring, I noticed a natural lens flare occurring that seemed to perfectly encircle Mt. Taranaki (left) and the mountain in front of it.  This effect created a beautiful sense of symmetry with a perfectly circular lens flare, the sun in the middle of it and the two mountain peaks bordering the circle.  The added bonus of it all was the mood that the sun naturally created in the picture.  Easily one of my favourite sunset shots in New Zealand thus far.
